Product Description

A GNU+Linux laptop that Respects Your Freedom!

The Libreboot C201 runs entirely on free and open source software, from the BIOS to the operating system, drivers and applications, guaranteeing the users freedom and privacy. It comes with Debian GNU+Linux (or another distribution of your choosing) and Libreboot BIOS replacement preinstalled.

Free boot firmware (libreboot), free operating system (Debian Stretch), free EC firmware, no microcode… makes the C201 ideal for people who want a laptop that entirely respects their freedom, more so than previously supported libreboot laptops.

With its lightweight and portable design, the Libreboot C201 is ideal for anyone who needs a small, lightweight computer for travel, work or general entertainment purposes. It comes with a 1.8GHz quad-core ARM (Rockchip RK3288) CPU, 4GiB RAM and 16GB of built-in eMMC storage. Additional storage via SD card or external USB HDD/SSD is also possible.

It comes with a 1366×768 display resolution and a webcam above the LCD display.

Unlike most computer products, your Libreboot C201 comes without unwanted bloatware, DRM, spyware or restrictions on how you can use your computer. Your Libreboot C201 obeys you and nobody else. Even Richard Stallman uses libreboot! No DRM!

Shipping worldwide via UPS! (Europe, USA, Canada and Asia included. 2-5 day shipping to most of the world), with a 3 year warranty as standard, and free technical support. Prices are in GBP; use xe.com currency converter to check currency exchange rates (e.g. GBP to EUR, GBP to USD, etc). Minifree provides invoices in GBP by default, but you can request an invoice in another currency (e.g. EUR, USD) if you prefer, and one will be provided.

The correct power cable will be provided, depending on your country (e.g. Euro plug, USA plug, UK plug, etc). Extra cables are available for £10 GBP each. For non-UK countries, an appropriate power adapter will be provided.

Your Freedom. Your Libreboot

Libreboot. Free as in freedom BIOS/UEFI replacement. Libreboot is free software which initializes the hardware in the system and boots your operating system. It replaces the non-free BIOS usually found in most laptops.

Minifree’s founder is also the main libreboot developer (and founder of the libreboot project). Profits from Minifree sales directly fund the libreboot project.

Debian GNU+Linux is user-friendly, secure and respects privacy

Logo-DebianDebian GNU+Linux operating system comes preinstalled. Debian comes with all the standard applications for Web browsing, instant messaging, office and productivity, graphics editing, multimedia and more. Thousands of extra applications are also available to install from the Debian repositories, using the apt-get package manager provided. It even has games!

NOTE: The video acceleration does not work without binary blobs. Minifree ships the C201 without binary blobs, with software video rendering instead. This is OK and works well for most use cases. The wifi is provided via a USB wifi dongle (Atheros AR9271 chipset, ath9k_htc driver), to work around the lack of free wifi firmware for the built-in wifi device.

The extra ethernet dongle available is also USB, and it’s a separate device to the USB wifi dongle. Due to limitations in USB2 bandwidth, up to 100Mbps bandwidth on the ethernet dongle is guaranteed. This is still more bandwidth that most people have with their internet provider.

The version of Debian that we ship is Debian Stretch, with the MATE desktop. This version has optimised software video rendering, so it performs more smoothly than Debian Jessie on this laptop.

An alternative GNU+Linux distribution (instead of Debian) can be installed, for an extra 100 GBP.

The Libreboot C201 is sold in order to raise funding for the Libreboot project. Libreboot stickers are also available to purchase.
