US trade tariffs

Since 2 April 2025, the USA has started to impose hefty tariffs on imports of goods from all other countries.

The general tariff applied to UK imports is currently 10% (10 percent), and Minifree exports from the UK.

HOWEVER:

As of 12 April 2025, computers are exempt from US import tariffs, as are several other kinds of electronics including smartphones. Therefore

Therefore, US customers may rejoice, and order computers from Minifree, knowing that they will NOT need to pay tariffs on import. Source:

If this changes again, Minifree will update this notice. Indeed, US politics is rather fickle, even eccentric, at present. Absolutely bonkers. Also, why doesn’t America have a VAT system? Surely this would be more efficient as a way to raise import revenue, and perhaps replacing its current system of sales taxes in each state.

Please also read the warranty page, which also has outline information about import procedures.

Normally, tariffs are handled by the courier for you, whereby they raise an invoice requesting that you pay it, and then they pay what you paid; they also typically charge a filing fee, e.g. 25 dollars, since they are doing the paperwork for you.

Again, to re-iterate: since 12 April 2025, there are NO tariffs to pay on imports of Minifree products into USA.

Regarding the European Union

Minifree regularly ships to the EU without issue, from its lab in the UK. The couriers handle the paperwork and pay the tax (VAT) on your behalf, and then they simply contact you to request payment of VAT plus a small filing fee (usually about 20 euros). Minifree Ltd is VAT registered, and has an EORI registration number, so shipments to the EU go smoothly.

For the most part, this process is completely automated. The courier simply requests payment, and then they will release your package to you.
